What is Power Factor?

Power Factor (PF) is a measure of how efficiently electrical power is being used in your business. It's the ratio between Real Power (kW), which performs useful work (like running motors and lighting), and Apparent Power (kVA), which is the total power supplied to your facility.

How our PFC's Work

XSync Power Factor Correction (PFC) works by improving the efficiency of how electrical power is used in a system. 

Many electrical devices, especially motors and power transformers, draw not just active power (which does useful work) but also reactive power (which doesn't do useful work but is needed to maintain voltage levels). This results in a lower power factor and higher demand charges from energy providers.

Our XSync customised PFC systems correct this by adding a combination of capacitors and reactors into the electrical network, which supply the necessary reactive power locally. This reduces the amount of reactive power drawn from the grid, brings the power factor closer to unity (1.0), lowers the total current flow, reduces kilowatt losses (energy waste), and ultimately leads to lower energy costs and improved energy efficiency and system capacity.
